A web browser is the app or program (such as Chrome, Firefox, or Safari) you use to visit websites like Ancestry.
Using a supported, up-to-date browser helps Ancestry load and display correctly. When using an unsupported browser, some features may not work properly.
If pages aren’t loading or buttons aren’t responding, check that you’re using the latest version of one of the supported browsers below.
You can also check the Ancestry Site Status page to see if there are any current service interruptions.
If your browser is up to date and there are no reported service interruptions, see Fixing Page or Button Problems on Ancestry.
Supported browsers
Ancestry is built and tested to work with the following browsers:
Other browsers (such as Microsoft Edge, DuckDuckGo, or other built-in device browsers) may not function as expected. For the best experience, use one of the supported browsers listed above.
Download or update your browser
If you don’t already have one of the supported browsers, you can download it below. If you already have one, check for updates in the browser’s settings.
Chrome (computer, phone, or tablet)

Safari (iPad or iPhone)

Using the Ancestry app
If you're using a phone or tablet, we recommend using the Ancestry app instead of a browser. The app often provides a better experience than using a browser.
For help, read Installing and Signing In to the Ancestry App.
What if my device is too old to update?
If your computer, phone, or tablet no longer receives updates from the manufacturer, it may not work reliably with Ancestry, and some features may not function as expected.
We recommend keeping your device up to date according to the manufacturer’s guidance. If your device can’t be updated, consider switching to a supported device.
