The search tool for AncestryDNA® matches helps you find specific people in your DNA matches. You can search by name, username, or the surnames and birth locations in your matches’ family trees. To find specific people in your list of AncestryDNA matches:
Go to matches
- Above your matches, click Search.
- In the opened side panel, enter your search criteria and click Search. You can search by:
- Match name: first name, last name, or username.
- Surname in matches’ trees: last names listed in your matches’ trees.
- To include spelling variations in your search, select Include similar surnames. For example, if you enter the name “Nielson” and search for similar surnames, it will also find results for “Nielsen.”
- Birth location in matches’ trees: birthplaces listed in your matches’ trees.
- If a place has changed over time, the map will show it in its present-day location. For example, a birth location entered as "Prussia" would appear in Germany.
