When someone shares their AncestryDNA® results with you, you’ll receive an invitation by email.
Accepting an invitation
To accept an invitation to someone's DNA results, you must have an Ancestry account. If you don't already have one, create a free account.
- Check your email for an AncestryDNA® invitation.
Not getting Ancestry emails? - Open the email and click Review Invitation.
- If prompted, sign in. You must be signed in to accept the invitation.
- Click Accept invitation. If you don't see this, sign in and try again from step 1.
- Their results will now be available on your account’s DNA pages. For help switching between multiple tests, see Accessing Another AncestryDNA® Test on Your Account.
Memberships and DNA results you’re invited to
For any DNA tests you’re invited to, you don’t need a membership to see the ancestral origins, DNA matches, and some traits. However, some DNA features require a membership to use.
If someone shares their DNA results with you and,
- You have a membership: you can use all the DNA features available for that membership and your role (viewer, collaborator, or manager).
- You don’t have a membership: you won’t have access to the DNA features that require a membership, even if the other person has one.

Removing DNA results you’re invited to
Removing DNA results you’re invited to only removes them from your account; it does not delete them from Ancestry. Any results you remove that you were invited to will stay on the owner’s account, and they won’t be notified that you removed them.
To remove DNA results you're invited to from your account:
Go to DNA settings and skip to step 3
Or,
- In the top-right corner of Ancestry, click your profile and select Account Settings.
- On the left side of the page, under Settings, click DNA.
- Select the DNA test you want to remove.
- Scroll down to the DNA test sharing section and select DNA test sharing.
- Next to your name, click Remove.
