Connecting (linking) your existing Ancestry® account with Google or Apple can make Signing in to Ancestry faster and easier. (To sign up for a new Ancestry account with Google or Apple, see Creating a Free Ancestry® Account.)
Connecting a Google or Apple account
Connecting your Ancestry account with Google or Apple allows you to
Sign in with Google/Apple. Using this feature
does not give Google or Apple access to your Ancestry account or any information beyond the fact that you’re signing in to Ancestry.
To connect accounts:
- Go to Account settings (https://www.ancestry.co.uk/account/). If prompted, sign in.
- In the Account information section, choose Connected accounts >.
- Next to the account you’d like to link, select Connect.
- If prompted, choose a method (Send code via email or Enter current password) to verify your account, then follow the on-screen instructions; otherwise, skip this step.
- If prompted, choose Connect with Google or Connect with Apple.
Google: If you're signed in, choose an account to complete the connection. If you’re not signed in, enter your email or phone and select Next > Enter your Google password and choose Next > if asked, Verify it's you.
Apple: enter your Apple ID > enter your Apple password > if asked, enter the Apple verification code > if asked, choose whether or not to trust this browser > if asked, set your preferred email privacy (What is hide my email?). Select Continue > confirm using your Apple ID with Ancestry by selecting Continue.
- Your accounts are now connected! We’ll send an email confirming the account connection.
Disconnecting a Google or Apple account
Disconnecting Google or Apple accounts unlinks them from Ancestry. Once disconnected, you’ll no longer be able to
Sign in with Google or Sign in with Apple on Ancestry. However, your email address (or
Apple Relay Email) will remain associated with your Ancestry account for future sign in.
To disconnect accounts:
- Go to Account settings (https://www.ancestry.co.uk/account/). If prompted, sign in.
- In the Account information section, select Connected accounts >.
- Choose Disconnect.
- If prompted, Create password; otherwise, skip this step.
Enter your email address and choose Continue > enter the code sent to your email (Not Getting Ancestry® Emails?), select Continue > create a password* > re-enter the same password > select Continue and return to step 3.
*Passwords are case-sensitive, should not be common or well-known, and must:
- be at least 8 characters
- contain at least 1 number
- contain 1 letter or special symbol
- If asked, choose a method (Send code via email or Enter current password) to verify your account and follow the on-screen instructions; otherwise, skip this step.
- Confirm disconnection by selecting Continue.
- our accounts are now disconnected. We’ll send an email confirming that your accounts are no longer connected.

Can I still use two-step verification if I connect Google or Apple?Yes. However, the
two-step verification code will only be requested when you sign in to Ancestry with your email/username and password.
Can I sign in to Ancestry if I disconnect Google or Apple?Yes. You can
sign in to Ancestry with your email/username and password after disconnecting your accounts. If you don’t already have an Ancestry password, you’ll be prompted to create one during the disconnect process.
Can I reconnect accounts later if I disconnect them from Google or Apple?Yes. You can connect or reconnect Google or Apple accounts with Ancestry anytime by following the steps for
