Fix relationship mistakes in your tree by detaching people from wrong relationships and reattaching them correctly. Detaching a relationship does not delete the detached person, but you may not see them in your tree until they're reattached to someone.
Half relationships
If a relationship in your tree is listed as a “half” relationship (for example, a half sibling or half aunt) that should be a “whole” relationship, you can fix this by adding a second parent for the person who’s listed as a half relative. If they have an incorrect parent listed, first disconnect the incorrect parent, then add the correct parent. If they don’t have an incorrect parent listed, you only need to add the second parent. Make sure you don’t create a new person as their parent; instead, select an existing person from your tree.
Detaching wrong relationships
- Open a tree in the Ancestry app.
- Tap the person in your tree whose relationship you want to change and select View Profile.
- iOS: At the bottom of the person’s profile page, tap the Family section > Edit.
Android: Tap the Family section. - iOS: To disconnect a relationship, tap X next to someone's name > Delete Relationship Only > Delete.
Android: To disconnect a relationship, tap and hold a name > Remove as [relationship].
If you'll be establishing a different relationship between the two people you're detaching from one another, or if you’re attaching both people to different relationships, note the names of the people being detached so you can find them in your tree and connect a relationship to them after disconnecting the wrong relationship.
Reattaching relationships
- Tap the person in your tree whose relationship you want to reattach and select Add Relative.
- Tap Add [relationship].
- Start typing the name of the person you're connecting them to and select their name from the list of people that appears. If there's a Next link, tap it and follow the directions.
- At the top of your screen, tap Add or Save.
