AncestryDNA® kits can be purchased and sent to others as a gift. If you purchase a kit as a gift, it can be shipped to you or to the gift recipient directly. To help you keep the gift a surprise, we offer free printable cards and gift wrapping (for an additional cost).

Additional information
Packaging: By default, AncestryDNA kits ship in their original packaging labeled “AncestryDNA.”
If you send the kit directly to your recipient, they'll be able to see what it is when it arrives. Your name also won’t appear anywhere on the package, so if you want them to know it’s from you, you’ll need to let them know.
If you want to keep the gift a surprise, you can use the free printable cards or select the Gift wrapping option during checkout (for an additional cost) to have the kit shipped in neutral gift wrapping.
Shipping address: If you want to send the kit directly to the recipient, enter their address in the Shipping Address field during checkout. The billing address should be your address.
Delivery estimates: Delivery times depend on the shipping option you select. Kits ordered on Ancestry with standard shipping usually arrive within 10* working days, and kits with expedited shipping typically arrive within 3* working days.

If you bought AncestryDNA as a gift, but it might not arrive in time for the special event, consider downloading a free printable card to give in place of the AncestryDNA kit while waiting for it to arrive.
Receipt: After completing your purchase, we’ll send the confirmation receipt to your email address. We don’t include any receipts with AncestryDNA shipments. This means the person receiving the AncestryDNA kit won’t see the price you paid or who bought it for them. If you want your gift recipient to know it’s from you, you’ll need to let them know.
Receiving AncestryDNA® as a gift: After they’ve opened their gift, and when they're ready to get started, guide them to follow the instructions in Receiving AncestryDNA® as a Gift.
Viewing results: In most cases, within 6 weeks of the date we receive the sample, results should appear under the DNA tab of the test taker’s Ancestry account. AncestryDNA® results are not mailed.

Sharing results: If they want you to be able to see their results, they can share their results with you or even allow you to manage their test. If they share their results with you, their results will appear on your account and theirs.
Frequently asked questions
Do people who receive AncestryDNA kits as gifts need an Ancestry account?
Yes, if they’re an adult. Each adult who takes an AncestryDNA test must have their own Ancestry account. Only one DNA kit can be registered per account (except for minor children.) Adults can register their child's kit on their account.
If the recipient doesn’t already have an Ancestry® account, they can create one for free.
Do people who receive AncestryDNA as a gift need an Ancestry membership?
No. Ancestry® memberships are not required to view DNA results (including ancestral origins, DNA matches, and some traits). However, a membership could help them make more discoveries. To learn more, see AncestryDNA® and Memberships.

What should I do if the kit I purchased hasn't been delivered?
If a kit you purchased at least 14 working days ago (or at least 5 working days ago if you purchased expedited shipping) hasn’t been delivered, please contact us for a free replacement kit.
