Priority processing moves a DNA kit to the front of the processing line at the lab to deliver DNA results faster. Priority processing doesn’t affect shipping timeframes, just the order in which a sample is processed once it gets to the lab.
When a sample arrives at the lab, we scan the code on the tube. If you have priority processing, that scan will let us know to move your sample to the front of the processing queue. In most cases, you’ll receive your results within 4 weeks of the date it's received.
Frequently asked questions
How fast is priority processing?
Processing time varies based on laboratory demand and each sample’s unique needs.
During busy times, like holidays, shipping and processing may take more time. However, choosing priority processing will expedite your sample’s journey through the lab, potentially saving weeks.
If I order multiple kits, is priority processing applied to all of them?
If you have multiple kits in your cart when you select priority processing, priority processing and its costs will be applied to each kit. To order more kits without priority processing, place a separate order.
Does priority processing come with extra benefits, like new features?
No. Priority processing doesn’t affect the contents of your DNA results. It just moves your kit to the front of the line to help get results to you faster.
Why hasn’t my kit begun processing?
AncestryDNA® kits must be registered before they can be processed–with or without priority processing.
- If you’ve registered your kit, check back in a few days. If it's been more than 3 weeks since mailing it, and your DNA homepage doesn't show that we've received it, please contact us.
- If you still need to register your kit, please register it with the code on the back of the instruction packet that came with your DNA kit. If you no longer have the registration code, please contact us.
Why are my results taking longer than those from other kits I returned at the same time?
It’s normal for DNA samples to require different processing times—even if they were mailed together.
While samples with priority processing take the fastest route in our lab, we cannot guarantee a specific turnaround time, as each sample is unique and must pass certain quality checks to continue being processed. If your sample doesn’t pass our quality checks at any point, we may re-process your sample, potentially extending the time it takes to provide results.
Will replacement kits still receive priority processing?
Yes, replacement kits for orders with priority processing will still receive priority processing on the new test.
