Ancestry Pro Tools requires an active Ancestry family history membership. Family history memberships give you access to paid records, other member trees, and some DNA features.
Pro Tools provides access to advanced DNA and family history tools, including:
- Tree checker: Find potential duplicates and possible errors in your tree.
- Tree mapper: See where people in your tree lived in relation to one another.
- Tree insights: Discover familial trends and see patterns in your tree.
- Charts & reports: Create and share detailed family histories.
- Smart filters: Search, group, and sort people in your tree using key details beyond names.
- Networks: Explore connections beyond family. Group people by time, place, or shared experiences. Find records, add sources, take notes, and track research about the groups to reveal new insights.
- Enhanced shared matches: See how much DNA your matches share and their predicted relationships to each other. (Separate DNA kit purchase required to access this feature.)
- Matches by cluster: Explore visual groups of DNA matches who likely share a common ancestor and see how they’re connected to each other and to you. (Separate DNA kit purchase required to access this feature.)

Managing your membership
Pro Tools automatically renews (for the “Renewal price” listed on the "Renews on" date on your Account settings page) until you cancel or until your Ancestry family history membership ends. If you don’t want to renew, cancel at least two days before your renewal date.
Frequently asked questions
Which trees and DNA tests can I use Pro Tools with?
Pro Tools can only be used on:
- Trees you own or have been invited to edit.
- DNA tests you own or have been invited to view, collaborate on, or manage.
What can others with Pro Tools see in my trees and DNA?
Only the owner and editors of a tree can use Pro Tools on it. Others with Pro Tools, like guests and contributors, won't be able to use the benefits and features of Pro Tools on your trees.
Only the owner of a DNA test and those invited as viewers, collaborators, or managers can use the advanced DNA tools in Pro Tools with them.
Can I pause this membership?
Yes, Pro Tools memberships can be paused.
Pausing only Pro Tools won’t affect or pause any other memberships, like your family history membership, but you can pause multiple memberships at the same time.

Can I give this membership as a gift?
No. The Pro Tools membership cannot be purchased as a gift at this time.
What happens if I cancel Pro Tools?
If you cancel Pro Tools, you’ll have access to Pro Tools’ benefits until it expires (on the “Expires” date on your Account settings page).
What happens if I cancel my Ancestry family history membership?
Ancestry Pro Tools requires an active Ancestry family history membership. If your Ancestry family history membership expires, your Pro Tools membership will automatically be canceled at the end of its current paid period.
Is Pro Tools available in the Ancestry app?
No. Pro Tools features are not currently available in the Ancestry mobile app. However, they are available on the Ancestry website with an active Pro Tools membership.
